Don't just play defense. You gotta play offense!

Hello friends!

I had this thought recently, and wanted to share it with all of you.
It has to do with retail survival in this economy.

Name the sport: football, baseball, etc., and you'll see that while
you must play great defense, you cannot win without playing offense
as well. Even the most perfect defensive baseball team cannot win
if it does not score runs. A football team with an outstanding
defensive squad can't win the game without an offensive squad that
score touchdowns. It's true for all teams (except maybe badminton,
but is that really a sport?)

The same is true for retailing!

If you want to win, if you want to be profitable, if you want to
survive, you must also play offense. You cannot just cut expenses
and hope for the best. You need to identify those areas that your
business has a competitive advantage and push them.

We see far too many businesses that just play defense - they cut
costs, cut staff, reduce marketing (disaster in the making), but
they don't find places where they can score.

How do you identify these areas?

Contact me. I have the answer.

Dan Jablons
Retail Smart Guys
http://www.retailsmartguys.com
dan@retailsmartguys.com
Cell: 818-720-2585

We carry a large amount of seasonal products such as snowboard gear, swimwear, and apparel. How would you recommend we handle the leftovers at the end of each season? Our vendors generally have us sign agreements that set restrictions on when and how we can put their products on sale. But in general when and how should we essentially dump this dead weight from our inventory?
