   <description><![CDATA[Hello, I hoping someone can give me some advice. I have been in retail for the past 3 years as a business owner, all my life working in retail. I have moved my store due to other shops closing in my area and have located myself like a concession within another large store. my problem is I have been 2 months trading and everything seems to be going down hill. my new landlord is imposing new rules each day, we can't put signs up outside to let people know where we are, the foot fall is awful and his place is like a dump, customers walking in, shaking their head and walking out. im at my wits end as i don't know what to do anymore. the sales have fallen over 50% on jan feb this year, and they were already down on the last two years. My business was well established in the last place, is it that i need to re-establish myself again? I feel like I have lost my own identy and am suffocating because of someone else not doing what should be done. Any advice please would be so greatfully appreciated.]]></description>

   <description><![CDATA[How does one find out about different state requirements for register receipts?&nbsp;&nbsp; We want to apply store coupons to the the actual items, and some are saying to print out the item price adjusted for the coupon.&nbsp;&nbsp;For instance, if a store coupon were for $10 off your transaction, the receipt would show the item price prorated adjusted by the $10.&nbsp;&nbsp;The goal is that facilitates returns. Good idea, but I suspect that there's at least a state out there who says you must show the price of the item based on tag/shelf label and then show "-10 coupon" whereby the $10 is subtracted at the end.&nbsp;&nbsp;That is, if you have a coupon, the register has to show the price before and subtract off the coupon explicitly.&nbsp;&nbsp;However, after doing numerous google searches on both weights and measures topics and receipts, law, regulations, point of sale requirements, etc, I wasn't able to find anything conclusive.&nbsp;&nbsp; How do I find out what states require for POS receipt clarity on displays and printed receipt?&nbsp;&nbsp;Or is there really no mandate around this?]]></description>

   <description><![CDATA[This past week, Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update had this joke. Seth Meyers said, “The Dow Jones Industrial Average broke 10,000 this week. ‘Hooray!’ shouted 15 million unemployed Americans!”<br /><br />Funny in an ironic way, right?<br /><br />I am often struck by the tremendous variations in things I read, or opinions I hear, about the current state of the economy. There are those that say we’ve hit the bottom and are bouncing back. Then there are those that say we’re headed for more horribly bad times.<br /><br />I have also had this experience: I’ve seen articles in Women’s Wear Daily that indicate the economy will cause more retail stores to crash and burn, and the very next day it will report that there are high hopes for <br />Spring.<br /><br />Makes you wonder what the truth is, doesn’t it? I have therefore come to the following opinion: None of these pundits can offer an opinion that matters to the independent retailer. Retailers will thrive or fail, not based upon what is written in the newspapers, or what anyone’s opinion is. The level that the Dow Jones hits is also not so much a factor.<br /><br />The real factors are:<br />1. Does the retail business have a solid inventory plan, including outstanding forecasting that results in <br />inventory levels that provide balance and flow.<br />2. A ‘better than expected’ marketing plan that uses all the current technology to effectively reach <br />existing and potential customers.<br />3. A great staff that engages the customers, makes the store look fresh and new, and understands the value of units per transaction and clientelle-ing to make the best relationships possible.<br /><br />If all those are in place, the rest of the world can say whatever they want. These retail basics will help <br />people survive.<br /><br />We are recommending this to all our clients, ensuring that they survive.
